Unexpected Riches From Doing Good - Story
In a faraway kingdom , a King orchestrated a peculiar experiment. He ordered his soldiers to block an important road with a massive boulder. The king then hid in the trees atop a nearby hill, overseeing the road with a watchful eye.
He patiently observed to see if anyone would take the initiative to clear the path.
Passing by, some of the kingdom's affluent merchants and courtiers opted for the simple solution of navigating around the impediment. They simply walked around the boulder, leaving it to the next person to do something about it.
And sure enough, complaints started coming in. Many people started blaming the King for not keeping the roads clear. Yet none of them did anything about it other than whine and complain.
Accusations against the King's negligence echoed through the kingdom.
The road remained blocked for days, a symbol of collective apathy.
The king continued to observe.
On the third day, something unexpected happened.
As the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting an amber glow across the landscape, a shift in the narrative unfolded.
An old farmer, burdened with vegetables, arrived. Upon approaching the boulder, the poor farmer laid down his burden and tried to push the stone out of the way. The boulder was a lot heavier than it looked.
The boulder resisted, its weight proving a formidable adversary. The farmer, however, pressed on, pushing and straining against the unyielding obstacle. His muscles strained, and beads of sweat glistened on his furrowed brow. The sun continued its descent, casting long shadows that mirrored the farmer's perseverance.
Finally, after a Herculean effort, the boulder yielded, rolling away to reveal a cleared path. The farmer, victorious yet exhausted, retrieved his vegetables, preparing to resume his humble journey.
In a moment of serendipity, as he glanced over the spot where the boulder once stood, the farmer's eyes widened.
There, in the empty space, lay a purse. Upon opening it, he discovered a trove of gold coins and a note from the King. The note explained that the reward was reserved for the one who demonstrated the initiative to remove the roadblock.
A seemingly arduous task was in fact the path to unexpected riches for the old farmer, who would now be able to retire and live happily ever after.
